China's Foreign Ministry said on Monday that protectionism leads nowhere, in response to a question about US President Donald Trump's announcement of 25 percent tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports.
Asked to comment on the latest US protectionist tariffs at a regular press briefing, Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the ministry, referred specific questions to competent authorities.
"What I want to emphasize is that protectionism leads nowhere, and there are no winners in trade wars or tariff wars," Guo said.
