At least 195 people were injured in a huge explosion at a port in Iran's southern province of Hormozgan on Saturday, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported, citing Babak Yektaparast, spokesman for Iran's Emergency Medical Services Organization, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Saturday.
The wounded have been transferred to nearby medical centers, Yektaparast said.
The blast, which occurred at a gas tank in the Port of Shahid Rajaee, sent a huge column of smoke into the sky and caused extensive damage to nearby buildings and cars, Xinhua reported, citing the Iranian official news agency IRNA.
Rapid reaction and rescue teams have been dispatched to the scene, and all activities have been suspended in the port, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.
The blast shattered windows within a radius of several kilometres, Iranian media said, with footage shared online showing a mushroom cloud forming following the explosion, Reuters reported.
The blast occurred as Iran began a third round of nuclear talks with the US in Oman, according to the Reuters.
