After an explosion in Iran, the Chinese Embassy in Iran and the Consulate General in Bandar Abbas promptly communicated with local Iranian authorities to verify the situation, including checking on the injury status of Chinese nationals and requesting that the local authorities make every effort to provide medical treatment and ensure the safety of the lives and property of Chinese nationals, the Global Times learnt from the Chinese Embassy in Iran on Sunday.
The Chinese Embassy in Iran issued a safety alert on Sunday following a fatal blast at a southern Iranian port.
The explosion occurred at a southern Iranian port on Saturday, resulting in multiple casualties and noticeable tremors in Bandar Abbas. China's Consulate General in Bandar Abbas promptly activated its emergency response mechanism for consular protection, verifying the injury status of Chinese nationals with relevant Iranian authorities and urging them to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and their property, according to a notice released by the Chinese Embassy in Iran on Sunday.
The Chinese embassy once again reminded Chinese nationals in the country to enhance security awareness, avoid traveling to dangerous and sensitive areas as well as crowded places, and ensure personal and property safety. In case of emergencies, they are advised to report to the police instantly and contact the Chinese embassy for assistance.
According to China's Consulate General in Bandar Abbas, three Chinese citizens sustained minor injuries in the explosion. They are now in good condition after receiving medical treatment, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
A huge blast probably caused by the explosion of chemical materials killed at least 18 people and injured more than 700 on Saturday at Iran's biggest port, Bandar Abbas, Iranian state media reported, Reuters reported.
