The embassy of Switzerland presented a booth at the Beijing Dangdai Art Fair opened at the China National Agriculture Exhibition Center in Beijing on May 22. Part of activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of bilateral ties between China and Switzerland, this is the first time the Embassy of Switzerland in China is participating with a special art project.
Minister and deputy head of the Swiss Embassy in China Chantal Delli attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
The Swiss Embassy's booth focuses on the themes of identity, narrative, and symbolism. "Over the years, our bilateral relationship has grown across many fields. Art has the power to reflect, to challenge, and to connect - and that's exactly what we hope to do here," said Delli in her speech.
Swiss artist Miriam Laura Leonardi, who was invited to design the Swiss booth, told the Global Times that the month-long journey has fusion of mythology, art, and local technology. Active on the international art scene, Leonardi said the preparation for the booth presentation offered her an opportunity to feel more of China's characteristics, where the QR code, for instance, with its unique shape, turned out to be the perfect shape for the storytelling booth.
The installation explores the legend of William Tell, Switzerland's national hero.
The fair runs till May 25.
