Cartier, the luxury jewelry brand, had its website hacked and some client data stolen, it told customers in an email, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

The email stated that "an unauthorized party gained temporary access to our system,” and "limited client information,” such as names, e-mail addresses and countries, had been accessed, according to the Reuter report.

"The affected information did not include any passwords, credit card details, or other banking information," Cartier said, adding it had since contained the issue, per Reuters.
Cartier had not responded to a request for comment from the Global Times as of press time.
The National Business Daily, a Chinese business news publication, reported on Wednesday morning that Cartier's official customer service confirmed the data breach. It noted that affected customers included not only those in China, but also others in international markets.

The company also said the incident remains under investigation and has been reported to the relevant regulatory authorities. “We have a team that is working with external network security experts to properly control the incident. At the same time, we will further strengthen the protection of the system and data,” Cartier's official customer service was quoted by the National Business Daily report as saying.
