Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun
When asked to comment on European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's claims during the G7 summit that China's rare-earth export controls were a key issue discussed at the first meeting of the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism, and this is also a priority for the G7 and whether China will engage with the G7 on export controls, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun on Wednesday referred the specific questions about rare earth exports to competent Chinese authorities.
At the regular press conference on Wednesday, Guo stressed that China consistently adopts a responsible and non-discriminatory approach, fully considering the legitimate civilian needs and concerns of other countries, and reviewing export license applications in accordance with laws and regulations.
Given the dual-use nature of rare earth-related items, China's measures under its dual-use export control regulations align with international practices and are not targeted at any specific country, Guo said.
China is willing to continue strengthening dialogue and cooperation with relevant countries and regions in the field of export controls, uphold WTO rules and the multilateral trading system, and maintain the stability of the global economic order, he added.
