Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council
Question: According to reports, Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te claimed that as this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Taipei Palace Museum, the museum will cooperate with American museums and has no plan to cooperate with the Palace Museum in the mainland. What’s your comment on this?
In response, Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Wednesday that the Palace Museum and the Taipei Palace Museum share the same roots and lineage, and both house invaluable treasures of Chinese nation’s history and culture, carrying the shared memory of compatriots across the Taiwan Straits. These are priceless assets jointly owned by compatriots on both sides, who share the responsibility to pass on and promote this rich historical and cultural heritage.
It is deeply ironic and regrettable that the DPP authorities, driven by their “Taiwan independence” nature and political self-interest, are on one hand aggressively pushing “cultural Taiwan independence” and “de-sinicization,” while on the other hand exploiting Chinese cultural treasures for their own purposes. We sternly warn the DPP authorities that no one can sever the deep historical and cultural ties across the Straits, nor can anyone erase the Chinese cultural imprint that exists within Taiwan society and compatriots. Forgetting one’s roots and betraying the nation will inevitably be judged by history, said Zhu.
