Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun hosted the regular press conference on June 27. During the briefing, a reporter from TV Asahi asked: On June 28, four giant pandas in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan, will be returned to China. What is China’s comment on this? In February next year, two pandas from Tokyo’s Ueno Zoo will also return to China, which means Japan may soon be without any pandas. Many Japanese people are very fond of pandas and hope to lease more in the future. Will China and Japan continue their international cooperation on panda conservation?

Guo Jiakun responded by saying that giant pandas are rare and vulnerable wild animals deeply loved by people around the world and serve as friendly ambassadors of the Chinese people. Since the launch of China-Japan cooperation on giant panda conservation and research in 2000, the two sides have established a sound partnership and achieved positive outcomes in areas such as panda husbandry and management, scientific research, technical exchanges, and public education. These efforts have played an important role in enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and Japanese people. China is willing to continue strengthening communication and cooperation with global partners, including Japan, to jointly contribute to the protection of vulnerable and endangered species.
