Chinese FM spokesperson Mao Ning
When asked to comment on media reports that US President Donald Trump signed a memorandum imposing a hard-line US policy toward Cuba and reversed measures put in place by former President Joe Biden on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday, "I have noted the relevant reports."
Over the past 60 years, US's brutal blockade and illegal sanctions against Cuba have seriously violated Cuba's rights to survival and development, run counter to the basic norms of international relations, and caused disasters to the Cuban people," Mao said.
Mao said China firmly supports Cuba in taking a development path that suits its national conditions, and opposes the US's wanton imposition of unilateral sanctions under the pretext of so-called "freedom" and "democracy."
"We urge the US to immediately lift its blockade and sanctions against Cuba and remove Cuba from the list of 'state sponsors of terrorism,' which is also the common call of the international community," Mao added.
