In response to questions on whether China hopes to sign a joint statement before the China-EU leaders' summit this month as the Financial Times reported the EU "refused to agree on a communiqué unless China pledged greater efforts to cut its greenhouse gas emissions," and whether China is considering making additional climate commitments, Mao Ning, spokesperson from China's Foreign Ministry, said on Monday, China has always actively promoted green and low-carbon development. Over the past decade, the proportion of non-fossil energy in China's total energy consumption has increased to 17.9 percent, and carbon emission intensity has decreased by over 34 percent.

"We will continue to work with other countries to strengthen international cooperation on climate change, contributing to green transformation and sustainable development for humanity," Mao noted.
