China always welcomes companies from all countries, including the US, to invest in China and share in development opportunities, Li Chenggang, China's international trade representative and vice minister of commerce, said during a meeting with a delegation of member companies of the American Chamber of Commerce in China (AmCham China) on Monday.
During the meeting with the delegation, led by Michael Hart, AmCham China president, the two sides exchanged views on China-US economic and trade relations, as well as the development of American businesses in China, according to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM).
Li noted that China-US relations are among the most important bilateral relationships in the world, as they concern not only the well-being of the two peoples but also the future of humanity. "Cooperation benefits both sides, while confrontation hurts both. Dialogue, not conflict, and mutually beneficial cooperation, not a zero-sum game, should be the path forward," the official said.
China and the US have held economic and trade talks in Geneva and London, achieving positive results, the official said, urging the US to work with China to jointly safeguard the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-US economic and trade relations.
The MOFCOM official emphasized that opening-up is a fundamental national policy of China. China is advancing high-standard opening-up and steadily expanding institutional opening-up in areas such as rules, regulations, management, and standards. "China's door will only open wider. Its policy of utilizing foreign investment remains unchanged and will not change," said Li, noting that China consistently welcomes companies from around the world, including US enterprises, to invest in China and seize development opportunities.
Hart said that the outcomes of recent China-US economic and trade talks have provided strong support for stabilizing bilateral trade relations. He noted that China's signals to the world regarding further reform and commitment to opening-up are highly encouraging. AmCham China and its member companies will continue to serve as a bridge, support the expansion of bilateral economic cooperation, and remain committed to long-term development in China, Hart said, according to the MOFCOM statement.
During the meeting, Li also addressed specific concerns raised by US companies and elaborated on China's positions regarding relevant issues, the statement said.
