By Brasil 247 - Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took to social media on Wednesday (August 20) to highlight recent trade agreements with countries around the world, pledging to strengthen partnerships and secure new markets for Brazilian products.
The message comes amid a unilateral 50% tariff hike imposed by the US on Brazilian goods. Lula's government has been working to diversify global partners, leaving American consumers to bear the costs.
"We will continue working to ensure new partnerships for our producers and to expand the frontiers of our trade," Lula wrote on social media platform X.
Lula recalled that on July 9, he hosted Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Palácio do Planalto, following Prabowo's participation in the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro. According to Lula, the meeting strengthened bilateral ties and paved the way for new trade openings.
As a result, Indonesia officially opened its market to Brazilian beef on Tuesday (August 19). On the same day, Algeria also announced the opening of new markets for Brazilian exports. Earlier this month, Guatemala and South Africa had already expanded access to their markets.
Since the beginning of his term, Lula's administration claims to have opened 402 new markets for Brazilian producers, reflecting a strategy of diversification in response to global economic challenges.
"Brazil is a large and productive country," Lula stressed. "We will continue working to secure new partnerships and expand the frontiers of our trade."
