The Russian capital will receive five electric buses with driverless control. This was announced by Nikolay Asaul, Director General of Mosgortrans, according to the company's press service.
According to him, there are currently 2,400 electric buses operating in Moscow. Last month, an agreement was also signed to supply 700 new-generation electric buses, some of which will have driverless functions.
"These are experimental models, about five of them, which will have fully digital control, intelligent speed control and LiDAR vision systems (laser technology for detection and orientation in space. – Ed.)," Asaul said, speaking at the forum "Driverless Systems: Technologies of the Future."
The Director General of Mosgortrans noted that electric buses are not only environmentally friendly and comfortable, but also a key step towards the introduction of autonomous driving, since gas and diesel buses cannot be automated.
The press service emphasised that the introduction of driverless electric buses could improve the safety of urban travel.
