When asked about media reports claiming that the Mexican government plans to raise tariffs on some Chinese products in its 2026 budget proposal to be released next month to protect domestic companies from cheap imports, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Thursday that Mexico is China's second largest trading partner in Latin America, China is Mexico's third largest export destination, and mutual benefit and win-win results are the essential characteristics of China-Mexico economic and trade cooperation. 

China has always advocated for inclusive and beneficial economic globalization and opposes all forms of unilateralism, protectionism, and discriminatory and exclusionary measures," Guo said, stressing that China firmly opposes any attempt to impose restrictions on China under coercion or under various pretexts, which undermines China's legitimate rights and interests. "It is believed that the relevant countries will adhere to independence and properly handle relevant issues," he said.
