Li Chenggang, China's international trade representative with the Ministry of Commerce and vice commerce minister, visited the US from August 27 to 29 local time, holding meetings and talks with US officials and business representatives. He emphasized that China and the US should uphold mutual respect and manage differences through equal dialogue and consultation, according to a Saturday release by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM).
Li held talks and meetings with officials from the US Department of the Treasury, the Department of Commerce, and the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR), as well as with representatives from the business community, according to the MOFCOM release.
China and the US should adhere to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, making good use of the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanisms, managing differences through equal dialogue and consultation, expanding cooperation, and jointly promoting the healthy, stable, and sustainable development of China-US economic and trade relations, Li emphasized.
Both sides exchanged views and communicated on issues such as China-US economic and trade relations and the implementation of the consensus reached in China-US economic and trade talks, in line with the consensus of the two countries' leaders, according to the release.
During the visit, Li also held talks and exchanges with the US-China Business Council, the US Chamber of Commerce, and representatives of relevant US companies.
The US visit of the Chinese trade delegation led by Li was announced by MOFCOM on Thursday. Experts said this is a positive signal, as both sides show willingness to engage, opening a new window for negotiations before November, following the consensus reached in August between China and the US to extend the tariff suspension for another 90 days.
