By Brasil 247 - China is viewed more positively than the US by Brazilians when it comes to the production of mobile phones, computers and automobiles, as well as in the fields of artificial intelligence, innovation and technology, according to a survey released on Monday by Nexus - Pesquisa e Inteligência de Dados.
The poll measured Brazilian perceptions of the two countries across major industries and cultural areas.
Preference for Chinese electronics and vehiclesThe numbers show a clear edge for Chinese products. Six in ten respondents (62%) said they preferred Chinese-made phones and computers, compared to 30% who favored US products. Among young people aged 16 to 24, that preference rose to 64%. In Brazil's Northeast, seven in ten respondents highlighted Chinese electronics over American ones.
In the automotive sector, the race was closer: 47% of Brazilians said they preferred Chinese cars, versus 40% who favored American models. In the South of Brazil, China had a lead, with 52% expressing preference.
China seen as leader in AI and innovationThe survey also shows that China is viewed as the leader in innovation and technology. Two-thirds of respondents (67%) said the Asian country is more innovative than the US, compared with 26% who gave that edge to the Americans. In artificial intelligence, the advantage held: 59% versus 31%.
Marcelo Tokarski, CEO of Nexus, said the findings show that Brazil's perception of China goes beyond price competitiveness. "China is increasingly seen as a reference in quality, innovation and technological leadership, especially in areas such as electronics, vehicles and artificial intelligence. This growing preference over the US signals a significant shift in the Brazilian consumer mindset," he said.
US still leads in space, fashion and cultureDespite China's gains in technology, the US remains ahead in space, fashion and culture, according to the survey.
MethodologyThe Nexus survey interviewed 2,005 Brazilians aged 16 and older across all 27 states between August 15 and 19. The poll has a margin of error of two percentage points and a 95% confidence level.
