Vietnam on Tuesday marked the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day with a grand military parade at Ba Dinh Square in the capital Hanoi, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The celebration began with a 21-gun salute, followed by a military parade featuring formations of the armed forces and police, accompanied by large-scale displays of military vehicles, artillery, and weapons.

Thousands of Vietnamese families and tourists gathered along the streets of Hanoi on Monday night, lining the sidewalks of the parade routes to secure prime viewing spots for Tuesday morning's celebrations, according to the report.

The August Revolution, which took place in August 1945, led to the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) on Sept. 2, 1945.
