Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov referred to China-proposed Global Governance Initiative (GGI) as "one of the very important initiatives" in this global transitional period," according to media reports on Saturday.

"In fact, this is one of the very important initiatives that are emerging in this transitional period we are in," Peskov said at the Eastern Economic Forum on Saturday, RIA reported.

A Chinese expert noted that Peskov's remarks show the initiative reflects the aspirations of most countries, especially those in the Global South, embodying the international community's expectations for fairness, justice, and cooperation.

According to the TASS News Agency, Peskov said "The countries do not want to live as ordered by somebody in a unipolar world. They don't want to follow rules imposed by unknown actors for unclear interests. After all, the countries would like to follow the only thing we have in common - the United Nations. And the UN spirit, principles and Charter."

He specified that it is precisely the countries of the Global South that are uniting around this vision. "The events of the past couple of days are yet another confirmation that these trends are intensifying," Peskov concluded, TASS reported.

Peskov's remarks at this juncture highlight that China and Russia share a common position on global governance at a time when global security, development, and inter-civilizational exchanges are facing serious challenges, Yang Jin, deputy secretary-general of the SCO Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times on Sunday.

According to the Xinhua News Agency, Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 1 proposed the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) at the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus" Meeting in Tianjin.

On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the "SCO Plus" Meeting that his country supports the initiative and is interested in moving to a concrete discussion of the proposals, TASS reported.
