"This year's orders are already fully booked. Thank you for your full support," Zhou Ming, head of electrical engineering at Jiangsu Huachang Chemical Co., Ltd., said to Zhou Yan, a member of the electricity inspection team of the marketing department of State Grid Suzhou Power Supply Company, who was visiting on August 28.
Zhangjiagang, relying on the Jiangsu Yangtze River International Chemical Industrial Park, has gathered over 100 industrial enterprises above designated size and is committed to building a green new materials base worth hundreds of billions of yuan. By 2024, the city's chemical new materials industry output value reached 76.72 billion yuan, establishing a complete industrial chain from basic raw materials to end-use applications. Electricity is a key support throughout the entire industry chain.
Huachang Chemical is a core enterprise upstream of the industry chain. At the end of 2023, the company planned to scale up and build new projects. To meet electricity demand, a 220 kV substation is required. With the assistance of the local power supply company, the company's substation was successfully connected on May 29. It has been reported that after the new project starts operations, the company's annual output value is expected to increase by 30 percent and create over 200 new jobs.
Midstream manufacturing, which supports both upstream and downstream operations, involves complex processes and high electricity consumption, posing a major challenge to green transformation. Donghua Energy (Zhangjiagang) New Materials Co., Ltd., a core manufacturer in the midstream of the industry chain, boasts an annual production capacity of 1 million tons. In April 2024, with the support of the State Grid Suzhou Power Supply Company, Donghua Energy and State Grid Jiangsu Integrated Energy Company jointly upgraded the existing steam cooling and pressure reduction system within the plant and launched a cascaded steam waste heat power generation system. This increased the company's steam utilization rate to 90 percent, saving approximately 10 million yuan in energy costs and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 12,200 tons annually.
In the first half of this year, multiple projects were implemented in the industrial park, adding seven upstream and downstream supporting enterprises and creating over 5,000 jobs. The State Grid Suzhou Power Supply Company, in line with government planning, implemented substation expansion and new construction projects to improve power supply reliability in the industrial park and support the high-quality development of the chemical new materials industry.
