In response to recent widespread public attention on pre-made dishes, the office of the food safety commission of the State Council has attached great importance to the issue, and has organized the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Commerce, the National Health Commission, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and other departments to conduct thorough research, accelerate the formulation of national standards for pre-prepared dishes, and vigorously promote clear labeling of pre-prepared dishes in catering sector, in a bid to better protect consumers' right to know and choose, Xinhua News Agency reported on Sunday.
The development came after a dispute between internet celebrity Luo Yonghao and Chinese restaurant chain Xibei, which has sparked heated debate on China's internet over the transparency and definition of pre-made dishes in the past few days.
Xibei
on September 15 apologized to its customers in a public letter, vowing to shift from the central kitchen model to on-site food preparation in its outlets whenever possible. Hours after the apology made by Xibei, Luo said that he would give up further pursuit of actions against Xibei.
