According to a Reuters report, the US Secretary of State, foreign ministers of South Korea and Japan met in New York on Monday local time and released a joint statement to express “concern” about the cross-Straits situation. Additionally, the statement “expressed strong opposition” to "unlawful maritime claims" in the South China Sea and attempts to enforce such claims. The report claimed that the statement did not specifically mention China, but came amid simmering tension between Beijing and Washington and its allies over the South China Sea issues.

在9月23日举行的中国外交部例行记者会上，外交部发言人郭嘉昆在回应外媒记者“中方对此有何评论”的提问时表示，美日韩三国在台湾和涉海问题上说三道四，干涉中国内政，污蔑抹黑中国，中方对此强烈不满、坚决反对。

At a regular press conference on September 23, when asked for comment, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that the US, Japan, and South Korea have been making irresponsible remarks on Taiwan question and South China Sea-related issues, interfering in China’s internal affairs, and smearing China. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this.

郭嘉昆表示，台湾是中国领土不可分割的一部分，台湾问题纯属中国内政，不容任何外来干涉。当前台海和平稳定的最大威胁是“台独”分裂行径和外部势力的纵容支持。维护台海和平稳定，就必须坚持一个中国原则，必须明确反对“台独”，有关国家应该恪守一个中国原则，停止以任何形式纵容“台独”分裂活动，不得向“台独”分裂势力发出错误信号。

Guo said that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the Taiwan question is purely China’s internal affair, which brooks no external interference. The current greatest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits is “Taiwan independence” separatist activities and the indulgence and support of external forces. To maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits, the one-China principle must be upheld, and “Taiwan independence” must be unequivocally opposed. Relevant countries should adhere to the one-China principle, cease any form of indulgence toward “Taiwan independence” separatist activities, and refrain from sending wrong signals to “Taiwan independence” forces.

郭嘉昆说，当前南海局势总体保持稳定，中方始终坚定捍卫领土主权和海洋权益，同时致力于同有关当事国通过对话协商妥善处理分歧。有关国家应该尊重地区国家通过对话协商解决问题、维护和平稳定的共同努力，停止渲染紧张、挑动对抗。

Guo added that the current situation in the South China Sea remains generally stable. China remains steadfast in safeguarding its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests, while also committed to properly resolving differences through dialogue and consultation with the parties involved. Relevant countries should respect the joint efforts of regional nations to resolve issues and maintain peace and stability through dialogue and consultation, and cease stoking tensions and provoking confrontation.
