French President Emmanuel Macron was stranded on the streets of New York on Monday night local time after police blocked roads to make a path for US President Donald Trump’s motorcade. In a now widely shared video, the French president got out of his vehicle, called the US president and jokingly asked him to “clear the road,” The Telegraph reported on Tuesday.

According to The Telegraph report, Macron had just left the UN general assembly where he recognized a Palestinian state in a speech on Monday. But in a scene of utter contrast, he was seen indignantly arguing with a police officer, demanding he be allowed through the barricades.

Apologizing, the officer explained the roads have been closed to make space for Trump’s presidential motorcade, which can consist of more than a dozen vehicles. The US President is in New York before his address to the UN on Tuesday, according to the report.

“If you don’t see [the motorcade], let me pass,” Macron said, hanging over the metal fence, according to the report.

Forced to wait, he rings Trump. “Hey, how are you? Guess what, I am waiting in the street because everything is frozen for you, ha!” he tells the president, according to the report.

According to India Today, by then, Trump’s convoy had passed, and the road was opened only to pedestrians. The French President didn’t get back in his car and continued his journey on foot even as he continued to speak to Trump on the phone.
