China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced on Thursday that three US entities have been added to its export control list, effective immediately. The move was made to safeguard national security and interests and to uphold international commitments including non-proliferation, according to a MOFCOM statement.
The entities named are Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc., Planate Management Group, and Global Dimensions LLC.
MOFCOM said exports of dual-use items to these three companies are prohibited, and all related ongoing export activities must cease at once. In exceptional cases where exports are deemed necessary, exporters must apply to the ministry for approval, per the statement.
When asked about the considerations behind the move, a MOFCOM spokesperson said following the announcement, that the decision was made to safeguard national security and interests and to fulfill international obligations including non-proliferation.
"In accordance with relevant provisions of the China's Export Control Law and the regulations on export control of dual-use items, China has decided to list the three US entities that endanger China's national security and interests in the export control list," the spokesperson said in a statement.
The export of dual-use items to these entities is prohibited, and no export operator may violate the above provisions, the spokesperson noted.
