By Brasil 247 - A delegation of senior academics from several leading universities in Macao visited the headquarters of
Brasil 247 and
TV 247 on Saturday (Oct. 11) to present education and exchange opportunities for Brazilian students and professionals. The visit, reported by
Brasil 247, underscored growing cooperation between Chinese and Brazilian institutions in higher education and cultural exchange.
The delegation included Hui King Man, vice-rector of the University of Macau; Loi Kim Ieng, vice-rector of the Macao University of Tourism; Lam Io Fan, deputy director of the Academy of Public Security Forces; José Lopes Camilo da Costa Alves, director of the Business School at the City University of Macau; Leong Man Wai, vice-president of the Macau University of Science and Technology; João Alexandre Lobo Marques, vice-rector of the University of Saint Joseph; and Ng Wai I, vice-president of the Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau.
The group was joined by Carlos Roberto Xavier, head of Macao's Department of Higher Education, and was welcomed by
Brasil 247's founder and editor-in-chief Leonardo Attuch, international editor José Reinaldo Carvalho, executive editor Leonardo Sobreira, and technology director Nicolas Iwashita.
Strengthening academic cooperation between Brazil and ChinaDuring the meeting, the delegation emphasized the goal of expanding educational dialogue and exchange between Brazil and China, particularly through scholarship and mobility programs. Many Macao institutions, the professors said, offer full or partial scholarships, along with housing and integration support for international students.
"Student exchange is essential for the dialogue between civilizations," said José Reinaldo Carvalho, stressing the strategic importance of education in strengthening relations among Global South nations.
Brasil 247's Leonardo Attuch added that the outlet is committed to promoting cultural and academic integration between Brazil and China, including by publishing articles and essays from Macao-based scholars.
Portuguese as a bridge between East and WestLocated on China's southern coast, Macao is known for its unique blend of Eastern and Western cultures. A former Portuguese colony until 1999, the region retains Portuguese as one of its official languages and operates under the "one country, two systems" policy.
This linguistic and historical heritage makes Macao a natural gateway for Portuguese-speaking students seeking education in Asia without language barriers. In addition to Portuguese-language programs, several universities also offer courses entirely in English, further broadening their international reach.
Academic excellence and executive programsUniversity leaders highlighted Macao's strong academic reputation, particularly in research, internationalization, and its multicultural campus environment. Alongside traditional programs in Business Administration, Law, and Engineering, the institutions also offer degrees in Technology, Sustainability, International Relations, and Applied Social Sciences.
They also presented specialized MBA and executive immersion programs, designed for professionals interested in deep cultural and business exposure in China, a region with one of the highest per capita incomes in the world.
Macao's role in the Greater Bay AreaThe delegation also emphasized Macao's strategic position within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, one of the world's most dynamic centers of innovation and development. The region is home to major global technology companies such as Tencent and Huawei, based in nearby Shenzhen, making it an ideal ecosystem for research, education, and entrepreneurship.
The visit was received enthusiastically by
Brasil 247's team, which reaffirmed its commitment to supporting academic cooperation as a driver of closer ties between Brazil and China. The meeting symbolized a deepening of cultural, linguistic, and educational exchange, at a time when global collaboration and knowledge sharing are increasingly vital to sustainable development and international understanding.
