In the first three quarters of 2025, China's automobile production and sales both exceeded 24 million units, while output and sales of new-energy vehicles (NEVs) surpassed 11 million units, data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed, Xinhua News Agency reported on Tuesday.
From January to September, automobile production rose by 13.3 percent year-on-year to hit 24.33 million units, while sales increased by 12.9 percent to reach 24.36 million units, maintaining a steady growth momentum, the report said.
NEV production reached 11.24 million units, and NEV sales totaled 11.23 million units, up 35.2 percent and 34.9 percent year-on-year, respectively. NEVs accounted for 46.1 percent of total new car sales during the period, highlighting the sector's strong expansion.
Given the current growth momentum of China's automobile industry, the country's total vehicle exports are expected to exceed 6.5 million units in 2025, with cumulative NEV sales topping 16 million units. Overall market performance will likely surpass expectations, said Chen Shihua, deputy secretary-general of the CAAM, the National Business Daily reported on Tuesday.
