By Brasil 247 - The Brazilian government announced on Tuesday (October 21) the opening of new markets for national agricultural products, marking another milestone in the country's expanding trade network across Asia and Africa. According to official sources, Brazil has secured new export authorizations for Brazil nuts to Japan, processed eggs to Singapore, purified pork heparin to South Korea, duck and rabbit meat to Egypt, and bovine bone, horn and hoof derivatives for industrial use in India.

Since the beginning of 2023, the country's agribusiness sector has reached 460 new market opportunities through a coordinated effort between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE). Officials said the move highlights Brazil's repositioning as a global supplier of food and high-value inputs, emphasizing sustainability, quality, and innovation.

Asia emerges as Brazil's key trading destination

Between January and September 2025, 37% of Brazil's new market openings occurred in Asia, reinforcing the continent as the country's leading export destination. Japan, with a population of 124 million and over US$3 billion in agricultural imports from Brazil in 2024, will now import Brazil nuts — prized for their selenium content and premium quality for the country's bakery and confectionery industries.

Singapore, which imports over 90% of its food supply, has authorized imports of Brazilian processed eggs, valued for their longer shelf life and operational stability in the hospitality sector. Meanwhile, South Korea approved purified pork heparin, a key pharmaceutical ingredient used in anticoagulant drugs.

India and Egypt deepen industrial and protein trade ties

During Vice President Geraldo Alckmin's official mission to India, an agreement was signed to export bovine bone, horn and hoof derivatives — products with multiple industrial applications, from gelatin production to the textile industry. The initiative is seen as a step toward a circular economy and greater value-added production in Brazil's livestock sector.

In Africa, Egypt — a major partner in animal protein trade — authorized imports of duck, other poultry, and rabbit meat. The decision reflects Egypt's growing confidence in Brazil's halal certification and the country's consistent, predictable supply chains.

Lula's Asian tour reinforces Brazil's global diplomacy

The announcement coincided with President Lula's departure for an official trip to Asia, including stops in Indonesia and Malaysia. He will attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and the 30th East Asia Summit, and hold bilateral meetings with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Leaving for Asia, where I will make an official visit to Indonesia. Then I will attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and the 30th East Asia Summit. With this mission, we take another important step to strengthen international cooperation," Lula stated on social media.

The trip also includes the signing of agreements in science, technology, and innovation, underscoring Brazil's commitment to active and diversified diplomacy aimed at deepening ties with the Global South and securing sustainable development partnerships.
