CGC Empirical Projects: Hi-MO 9 BC Modules Outperform TOPCon in Power Generation
Published: Nov 03, 2025 04:24 PM
Since the beginning of this year, the China General Certification Center (CGC), a leading Chinese third-party certification body, has been tracking and monitoring multiple outdoor PV empirical projects. These efforts compare the power generation performance of Hi-MO 9 BC modules and TOPCon products across various application scenarios. Authoritative reports from the center confirm that the Hi-MO 9 BC modules have shown a significant power generation advantage over TOPCon products in diverse environments, including sites in Hainan and Zhejiang provinces.

Data indicates that the Hi-MO 9 modules, utilizing the HPBC2.0 technology, substantially outperform TOPCon modules in three key aspects: normal outdoor power generation, partial shading power generation, and post shading power generation. The cumulative per-kilowatt power generation gains were 0.75%, 32.62%, and 11.34%, respectively, demonstrating exceptional overall power generation performance.

The LONGi Hainan empirical project is located in Yazhou District, Sanya City. Located in the low-latitude tropical region, the area enjoys abundant sunlight throughout the year, and features a tropical maritime monsoon climate. The demonstration site is equipped with four module arrays (20 Hi-MO 9 and 20 TOPCon modules each), with two arrays being shaded modules and the other two unshaded.

Spanning just over two months (October to December 2024), and supervised by the Certification Center, the project's performance was comprehensively displayed by comparing cumulative per-watt power generation and power generation across different time segments, showcasing LONGi's Hi-MO 9 modules versus mainstream TOPCon modules in engineering application scenarios.

Located in Sanmen County, Zhejiang Province, the test base experiences a typical subtropical monsoon climate, with annual temperatures ranging from approximately 5.3°C to 27.9°C and about 1,800 hours of sunshine per year. The mudflat environment simulates common PV application scenarios in coastal areas, monitoring the long-term reliability, weather resistance, and power generation performance of modules under harsh conditions such as high humidity, high salt mist, complex muddy foundations, and tidal effects. Such empirical data holds significant value.

The CGC Mudflat PV Test Base report marks the first time that the performance differences between BC and TOPCon technologies have been verified in real-world, harsh marine solar conditions. The empirical data robustly demonstrates that LONGi’s HPBC 2.0 technology, embodied in the Hi-MO 9 modules, achieves comprehensive leadership over TOPCon modules in two core metrics: actual power generation capacity (1.93% gain per kilowatt) and operating temperature control (1.26°C lower on average).
The empirical projects have comprehensively exhibited LONGi's Hi-MO 9 modules' outstanding power generation capabilities in complex outdoor scenarios, which is a testament to LONGi's continued focus on customer value and pioneering spirit of constant innovation. BC technology products are emerging as a superior solution for utility-scale PV projects and will deliver enhanced commercial value over their lifecycle for global customers.
