5G-A-Powered Embodied Intelligence Torchbearers Shine at 15th National Games of China
Published: Nov 03, 2025 04:39 PM
The 15th National Games of China is set to open in November 2025 across the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. A key innovation taking the spotlight is the pioneering "Human-Robot Joint Torch Relay," achieved through a partnership between China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd., Huawei, Leju (Shenzhen) Robotics Technology Co., Ltd., and the Beijing Institute for General Artificial Intelligence. This marks the first time in the world that a torch relay has been conducted by embodied intelligence robots over a commercial wireless network. This achievement signals a new phase in the deep integration of 5G-A technology and embodied intelligence, ushering in a new era of intelligent sports powered by mobile AI.

Throughout this remarkable relay, 5G-A technology provided robust support featuring high reliability, ultra-low latency, and continuous coverage, which ensured smooth and accurate robotic control under complex real-world conditions. The event represents not only China's debut of robotic torchbearers in sports, but also the world's first demonstration of autonomous robotic running and human-robot interaction powered by a commercial network.

5G-A Creates a ‘Super Stable, Super Fast, and Super Intelligent’ Tech Track

The torch relay route, stretching from Shenzhen Civic Center through the Lianhuashan Corridor to Civic Square, presented a complex networking environment with dense concentrations of spectators, media, drones, and livestreaming equipment. As the No. 0 torchbearer, the 5G-A embodied intelligence robot navigated autonomously for the first time without remote control or accompanying technicians. It relied on high-definition video upload to enable cloud-based path determination and successfully completed the torch handover with other bearers. To ensure a flawlessly smooth relay, China Mobile optimized over 20 sites along the route. This achieved an exceptional performance with a stable uplink rate of 20 Mbps and mere 20 ms latency, seamlessly synchronizing robotic motion control, HD video upload, and remote monitoring.

Huawei offered multiple 5G-A solutions to enhance the operator's network quality.

• Full-band Massive MIMO: The solution employed a dual-band integrated array design to achieve coordinated coverage across both low and high bands. It delivered a peak rate of 5 Gbps, effectively addressing the needs of AI interactions and high-traffic applications.

• Advanced beamforming for full coverage: Utilizing an ultra-wide-angle architecture and innovative antenna materials, the solution achieved comprehensive signal coverage for intelligent devices like embodied intelligence robots and low-altitude drones.

• Lightweight pole site: A high-density layout of the sites across the venue and its periphery delivered outstanding performance for multi-scenario interactions and high-concurrency demands.

• Intelligent network O&M: The AI agents implemented self-optimization and unattended maintenance, providing visualized and automated assurance for all intelligent applications during the event.

This "Super Stable, Super Fast, and Super Intelligent" 5G-A assurance solution guaranteed optimal coverage by flexibly allocating various frequency bands based on real-time user density and specific application requirements. Furthermore, it used wireless AI for intelligent evaluation, enabling rapid air-interface quality recovery and early detection of anomalies. This dramatically improved troubleshooting efficiency.

Tech Torch: Igniting a New Era of Intelligent Sports and Social Empowerment

The embodied intelligence torchbearers flawlessly handed over and ignited the torch, drawing the spotlight of the entire gathering. This strikingly showcased the dynamic synergy between AI and 5G-A, illustrating how technology transforms sports events while highlighting 5G-A's crucial role in advancing intelligent social development.

As of October 2025, China's 5G-A package user base has surpassed 45 million. 5G-A is evolving beyond communications networks to become the cornerstone of an intelligent society. It powers a wide range of applications, including smart cities, intelligent manufacturing, remote healthcare, and embodied intelligence.

In a use case with China Southern Power Grid, 5G-A allowed embodied intelligence robots to conduct remote inspections, improving efficiency by 84% while significantly reducing manual risks. In tandem with AI agents, 5G-A is also playing a pivotal role in emergency rescues. These applications demonstrate the same seamless technology fusion as seen in the 15th National Games, which will revolutionize societal productivity on a profound scale.

Conclusion: Toward a More Human-Centered and Intelligent Future

5G-A is redefining how humans work with AI agents as we usher in a new era where everything is intelligently connected. Huawei will continue to foster 5G-A innovations and evolution to enable smarter networks that benefit everyone.
