By Brasil 247 - The Brazilian news outlet Brasil 247 and the Chinese company Global Tone Communication Technology (GTCOM) signed on Monday afternoon (November 3) in Beijing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at cooperating in the development of artificial intelligence tools focused on translation and journalism. The agreement was signed by Leonardo Attuch, founder and CEO of Brasil 247, and Wang Danying, CEO of GTCOM.

The partnership represents a historic step in Brazil-China cooperation in the fields of communication and technology, reinforcing the role of media as a bridge for dialogue among civilizations. The understanding envisions the ethical and collaborative use of AI to enhance text and video translation, create journalism-specific language models, and broaden the cultural exchange between the two nations.

One of the key goals of the agreement is to establish an artificial intelligence laboratory dedicated to journalism. The initiative aims to develop responsible technologies that bring together the fields of media, culture, and science while strengthening international cooperation.

The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the China Foreign Languages Translation Co. (CTIS), a state-owned enterprise responsible for major translation and communication projects and parent company of GTCOM. Wang Jianhui, Executive Director of CTIS, highlighted the strategic significance of the partnership, stating that the agreement "reflects CTIS's commitment to strengthening global translation and communication capabilities, promoting the ethical use of artificial intelligence, and fostering cultural exchange among nations."

According to Wang Jianhui, CTIS seeks to "work with international partners such as Brasil 247 to tell China's story well, share its culture, and contribute to building a community with a shared future between China and Brazil."

Leonardo Attuch praised the innovations achieved by GTCOM in the field of artificial intelligence and expressed gratitude for the warm reception, noting that "collaboration between media and technology is essential to ensure that communication among peoples and cultures becomes more accurate, fair, and inclusive."

Founded in 2011, Brasil 247 is one of Brazil's leading news portals, reaching around 30 million monthly page views, while GTCOM, a subsidiary of CTIS, is recognized worldwide for its expertise in linguistic technologies and big data applied to international communication.

The initiative stands as a concrete milestone in Sino-Brazilian media cooperation, with the potential to generate innovative technological tools that foster mutual understanding between societies and strengthen the role of journalism in the era of artificial intelligence.
