By Brasil 247 – The organization of the upcoming COP30 in Belém, Pará, received an important logistical boost this Wednesday (November 5) with the delivery of 100 electrified vehicles from the Chinese automaker GWM Motors. According to Brazil’s Civil House, the vehicles will be used exclusively during the climate summit to transport authorities, organizers, and international delegations.

During the symbolic handover ceremony, Rui Costa, Brazil’s Minister of the Civil House, thanked the company for its partnership and underscored the strengthening of ties between Brazil and China. “We are grateful for this act of cooperation, which reinforces economic, industrial, and technological integration — particularly with the company’s assembly plant in Brazil. This initiative strengthens our economic and cooperative bonds,” Costa said, referring to GWM’s factory in Iracemápolis, São Paulo, the automaker’s first in the Southern Hemisphere.

The ceremony was attended by Zhu Qingqiao, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brazil; Andy Zhang, President of GWM Brazil and Mexico; Ricardo Bastos, Director of Institutional Relations; and Diego Fernandes, Director of Operations.

Symbol of sustainable partnership

For Ricardo Bastos, the delivery of the vehicles represents more than a symbolic gesture — it demonstrates GWM’s commitment to energy transition and sustainable mobility. “This initiative reflects GWM’s global strategy to invest in low-carbon technologies and to make a concrete contribution to reducing emissions and advancing the global climate agenda,” he said.

Minister Rui Costa also emphasized China’s leadership in environmental diplomacy and its alignment with Brazil in the fight against climate change. “Today, China stands as a reference and, alongside Brazil, leads the global dialogue to reduce emissions,” he stated.

Expanding investment and cooperation

Earlier in 2025, GWM announced a R$6 billion investment in Brazil, unveiled during President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s visit to China. The plan foresees the allocation of funds between 2027 and 2032, aimed at expanding the Iracemápolis plant and launching two new locally produced models.

The Iracemápolis facility, reactivated in 2023, has since become a strategic hub in GWM’s hybrid and electric vehicle supply chain across Latin America.

Brazil and China at the forefront of climate action

The Climate Summit, a preparatory meeting for COP30, will take place on November 6–7, bringing together heads of state, ministers, and representatives of international organizations. The COP30 itself will be held from November 10 to 21 in Belém, gathering negotiators, world leaders, scientists, entrepreneurs, and civil society representatives to advance global goals to combat the climate crisis.
