Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi pursues historical revisionist policies, and Tokyo's extensive anti-Russian rhetoric contradicts its claimed intention to normalize relations with Russia, Sergei Shoigu, secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council, told Russia's RIA Novosti on Thursday.

Shoigu said that Japan's new administration is making every effort to curry favor with the US, even at the expense of its own national interests, per the report.

Certain countries in the Asia-Pacific region cannot be considered allies of the US, as an alliance implies equal interaction, whereas their current relationship is one of vassalage, Shoigu added, according to RIA Novosti.

He also emphasized that the normalization of Russia-Japan relations may take years to achieve, and this will only be possible if Japan fundamentally reassesses its attitude toward Russia and takes concrete actions, the report said.
