In response to questions that German Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Finance Lars Klingbeil said after co-chairing the fourth China-Germany High-Level Financial Dialogue with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng on Monday that the two sides had also discussed the Taiwan question and Vice Chancellor Klingbeil said the German government is concerned about the possibility of military escalation in the Taiwan Straits and about the position the Chinese side expressed on the Taiwan question during their talks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Tuesday that the Taiwan question is China's internal affair and how it is resolved is a matter for the Chinese people, brooking no external interference. She stressed that the key to maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits lies in upholding the one-China principle and firmly opposing "Taiwan independence" separatist activities.
