China has consistently opposed unilateral sanctions that violate international law and are not authorized by the UN Security Council, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday, when asked whether an EU decision to use frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine would undermine China's confidence in the EU's business environment, as the European Commission hopes to make a decision at an upcoming summit.

"All parties should create a positive atmosphere and favorable conditions for promoting peace talks and a political solution to the Ukraine crisis, rather than the opposite," Guo said.
