By Brasil 247 - Brazil's special advisor to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for international affairs, Celso Amorim, said that peace is an indispensable condition for economic and social development, while highlighting Brazil's experience in mediating international conflicts. His remarks were made during a BRICS workshop on conflict mediation held on December 16 and 17 at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasília.

The event and Amorim's statements were originally reported by RT Brasil. According to the Brazilian diplomat, the workshop aimed to emphasize the accumulated knowledge and lessons learned by the Global South in resolving international crises, demonstrating that countries outside the Western axis possess the technical and political expertise to act as mediators without relying exclusively on traditional diplomatic centers.

According to Amorim, wars and prolonged instability make sustainable economic growth, social inclusion and poverty reduction impossible, particularly in developing countries. He stressed that strengthening dialogue and mediation mechanisms should be seen as a strategic priority for the international system.

The BRICS workshop also included the participation of invited countries such as Turkey and Qatar, both internationally recognized for their mediation initiatives. Amorim also highlighted South Africa's historical role in its democratic transition after apartheid as a successful example of conflict resolution through political dialogue.

Amorim said that closing Brazil's BRICS presidency with a discussion centered on peace carries strong symbolic significance. While the bloc has made progress on agendas such as artificial intelligence and renewable energy, he argued that the ability to foster dialogue, prevent crises and resolve conflicts remains the most noble and essential mission for the future of BRICS countries and for the construction of a more balanced and multipolar international order.
