In response to reports that the US Trade Representative's Office claimed on Tuesday local time that it would impose tariffs on Chinese semiconductor products starting in June 2027, with details to be announced at least one month in advance, and claimed it had conducted a year-long investigation into China's semiconductor industry, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday that China firmly opposes the US abuse of tariffs and its unwarranted suppression of Chinese industries.

Lin warned that such moves disrupt global industrial and supply chains and harm the development of the global semiconductor sector, ultimately hurting all parties involved.

Lin urged the US to correct its mistakes as soon as possible and address concerns through dialogue on the basis of equality, mutual respect and reciprocity, in line with the important consensus reached by the two countries' leaders. He added that China will take firm measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests if the US insists on going its own way.
