The Russian military launched a massive strike on critical facilities in Ukraine, including using an Oreshnik hypersonic missile, the Russian Defense Ministry said Friday.
The attack also involved high-precision long-range ground and sea-based weapons, as well as combat drones, the ministry said.
The targets included drone production facilities and energy infrastructure that supports the operation of Ukraine's military-industrial complex, it added.
The Oreshnik hypersonic missile is capable of reaching high speeds, according to media reports. In November 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that Russia had successfully tested the missile system, hitting targets in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.
The ministry said the raid was in response to an alleged Ukrainian attack involving 91 long-range strike drones on Putin's residence in the Novgorod region overnight into Dec. 30, 2025.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denied launching the attack, calling it "another lie from the Russian Federation."
