Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro claimed he was "doing well" in a US jail as he and his wife Cilia Flores await trial, Maduro's son said in a video released on Saturday, AFP News reported.
"We are doing well. We are fighters," Maduro's son, lawmaker Nicolas Maduro Guerra, quoted him as saying. Maduro Guerra spoke in a video released by the ruling PSUV party, according to the report.
The US launched a military operation against Venezuela on January 3, carrying out a surprise raid on the capital Caracas and forcibly seizing President Nicolas Maduro and his wife before transferring them to the US. On January 5, the couple made their first appearance at a US federal court in New York, where they rejected US charges.
Meanwhile, the Venezuelan government has continued to condemn the US action as an illegal act of aggression, while protests have persisted in multiple parts of the country.
Venezuela's acting president Delcy Rodriguez on Saturday pledged to realize the return of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, Xinhua News Agency reported.
