Under the approval of the Central Military Commission, construction has officially begun on the Tongzhou branch of the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution in Beijing. The new branch will be located on the site of the former China's Militia Weaponry Museum in Jiaowangzhuang village, Tongzhou district, the museum announced on Thursday.

The core structure of the branch is its exhibition building, whose design draws inspirations from the ancient arrowhead. Featuring a predominantly square form accented with diagonal lines to convey a sense of strength, the building has a strong military aesthetic and reflects the fighting spirit and confidence of the people's armed forces in the new era, according to an announcement from the official website of Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution.

The exhibition building has a total floor area of more than 40,000 square meters, with approximately 20,000 square meters designated for exhibition space. It will house three major permanent exhibitions.

The first floor will present decommissioned weapons and equipment of the people's armed forces. The exhibition will showcase large-scale weaponry that was captured, introduced, replicated, or independently developed, tracing the evolution of major military equipment from its earliest stages to modern capabilities. It also highlights the history of the people's armed forces and the fighting spirit demonstrated in their development from a small and weak force into a strong modern military.

The second floor will focus on ancient and modern Chinese military history, centering on China's rich traditional military culture and systematically presenting more than 5,000 years of military thought and strategy.

The third floor will feature a themed exhibition on firearms from around the world. It will trace the history and technological evolution of firearms from their emergence in the early 14th century to the present day, with more than 1,000 items or sets planned for display.

Construction of the branch is currently progressing to high standards and quality, and the venue is expected to open to the public in 2027.
