By Brasil 247 - Petrobras said it exceeded the production targets set in its 2025-2029 business plan and posted new annual records across key indicators in 2025, driven mainly by the pre-salt fields.
According to Valor Econômico, Petrobras' oil production reached 2.40 million barrels per day, beating the upper end of its target band by 0.5 percentage points above the +4% limit. The company said the result represents an 11% increase compared with 2024. Total oil and natural gas production rose to 2.99 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, exceeding the upper end of the target band by 2.8 percentage points above the +4% limit, also up 11% year over year, the company said. Commercial production reached 2.62 million barrels, surpassing the upper end of the +4% target by 0.9 percentage point.
Petrobras said the figures set new annual historical records over its more than 70-year trajectory. The company added that it also set new pre-salt annual records, with total own production at 2.45 million barrels and operated production at 3.70 million barrels. Petrobras said pre-salt volumes accounted for 82% of its total production.
In 2025, two new platforms started operations in the pre-salt area of the Santos Basin, Petrobras said. They were the floating production unit Almirante Tamandaré in the Búzios field and the floating production unit Alexandre de Gusmão in the Mero field. Petrobras also said the Marechal Duque de Caxias unit in Mero reached its production peak.
The company said Almirante Tamandaré set a production record and averaged around 240,000 barrels per day in November and December, becoming Brazil's highest-producing platform. Petrobras said it continued the ramp-up of the Maria Quitéria unit in the Jubarte field, as well as the Anita Garibaldi and Anna Nery units in the Marlim and Voador fields.
Petrobras attributed the outperformance to operational gains. "The significant increase in operational efficiency of all operational units was fundamental to surpassing production targets," the company said. It also highlighted that operated production in Búzios reached 1 million barrels per day with only six platforms, which it said shows the "high productivity" of the field's wells. Petrobras added that the seventh platform, P-78, entered operation on December 31 and "will contribute to the continuation of the company's production growth trajectory."
