Brazil's Lula speaks with Trump, plans Washington visit

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump and agreed to pay an official visit to Washington, Brazil's presidency said Monday.
During the 50-minute conversation, Lula proposed that the Council of Peace initiative put forward by the United States focus specifically on the Gaza conflict and include a seat for Palestine, according to an official statement.
Lula also reiterated the importance of a comprehensive reform of the United Nations.
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and global issues, including economic cooperation, the fight against organized crime and the political situation in Venezuela. Lula underscored the importance of preserving peace and stability in the region and working for the well-being of the Venezuelan people.
They agreed to Lula's visit to Washington after his scheduled trips to India and South Korea in February, with the exact date to be determined.
The presidents also exchanged views on economic indicators in both countries, noting positive growth prospects. Trump said that economic growth in the United States and Brazil is beneficial for the region as a whole.
