What are the Foreign Ministry’s expectations for this visit?
郭嘉昆对此表示,正如你所说,英国首相将应邀对华进行正式访问,从1月28日至31日。当前国际形势变乱交织,中英作为联合国安理会的常任理事国,双方保持沟通,加强合作,符合两国人民的共同利益,也有利于促进世界和平稳定与发展。
Guo said that the UK Prime Minister will pay an official visit to China from January 28 to 31. Against a backdrop of a turbulent and complex international situation, continuous communication and strengthened cooperation between China and the UK, both permanent members of the UN Security Council, serve the common interests of the peoples, and are conducive to promoting world peace, stability and development.
郭嘉昆称,斯塔默首相此访是英国首相时隔8年再次访华。访问期间,中国领导人将同他举行会谈、会见,就双边关系和共同关心的问题深入交换意见。斯塔默首相还将访问上海。中方愿以此访为契机,同英方增进政治互信,深化务实合作,共同开启中英关系健康稳定发展的新篇章,携手为世界和平安全与稳定作出应有的努力和贡献。
Guo noted that this visit marks the first time in eight years that a UK prime minister visits China. During the visit, Chinese leaders will hold talks and meetings with Starmer, during which they will have in-depth exchanges of views on bilateral relations and issues of common concern. Starmer will also visit Shanghai.
China is willing to take this visit as an opportunity to enhance political mutual trust with the UK, deepen practical cooperation, jointly open a new chapter in the healthy and stable development of China-UK relations, and work together to make due efforts and contributions to world peace, security and stability, said Guo.
