Colombian authorities have located a missing passenger plane carrying 15 people on Wednesday, with no survivors reported, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
The Beechcraft 1900 aircraft, operated by state airline Satena, was located in the Norte de Santander region in northeastern Colombia, after local residents and the National Police found the wreckage, according to Colombian news outlet RTVC Noticias, Xinhua said.
The aircraft, operating domestic flight NSE 8849 on the Cucuta-Ocana route, made its last contact with air traffic controllers at 11:54 am after taking off at 11:42 am, local time, Satena said in a statement. The plane was carrying 13 passengers and two crew members, per Xinhua.
Colombian lawmaker Diogenes Quintero and members of his team were aboard the plane, as well as Carlos Salcedo, a candidate for Congress ahead of elections in March, Reuters reported, citing a passenger list released by the airline.
Quintero had been a member of the national legislature since 2022 and was a representative of the “special peace constituencies,” one of 16 seats in Congress meant to represent victims of violence, as part of the 2016 peace accords with militants of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), CNN said.
Colombia's civil aviation authority activated emergency protocols and launched a unified command post to gather information on the crash, according to Xinhua.
