Renowned singer and music producer Yuan Wei-jen has passed away at his home in Taitung county on the island of Taiwan at the age of 57, according to local media outlets including TVBS and CTI News on Monday.

"We will bring him back to Taipei to be buried together with our father, in a place with mountains and water, a place familiar to him. We are comforted that he left behind numerous songs — to listen to when missing him, while driving, when sad, or when at peace... he is everywhere," said his elder sister Yuan Ai-zhen in a statement.

As a talented musician, Yuan wrote many popular songs, including "Conquest", "Addicted" and "A Dream" for famous Chinese singers like Na Ying and Faye Wong.

In 2018, he sustained a head injury from a fall, which led to a cerebral hemorrhage and stroke, and subsequently recuperated at his home in Taitung.  In 2020, news emerged that he had fallen at home again, hitting his head, which led to a coma and admission to the intensive care unit. Subsequently, Yuan was bedridden due to brain injuries and was diagnosed by doctors as being in a vegetative state, reported by China News Service on Monday.

On November 29, 2025, Yuan was urgently taken to the hospital by ambulance due to suspected physical discomfort, and the details of his condition were still pending further clarification at that time, according to a Xiaoxiang Morning Herald report via China News Service.
