China FM says it has noted similar reports in Japan in recent years, responding to announcement of the deep-sea retrieval of rare earth-rich mud

In response to Japanese media reports that the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology announced on Monday that its deep-sea research vessel Chikyu had successfully retrieved rare earth-rich mud from a depth of about 5,600 meters near Minamitorishima, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular press briefing on Tuesday that "we have noted that there have been similar reports in Japan in recent years."
