At the regular press conference of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on February 9, a reporter asked: In Japan’s election, the Liberal Democratic Party won an overwhelming victory, allowing Sanae Takaichi to continue in power. What kind of foreign policy does China hope the new Takaichi administration will pursue?
In response, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian stated the election is Japan's internal affair. However, this election has reflected some deep-seated structural problems as well as the evolving trends of ideological currents, which deserve profound reflection by visionary individuals from all walks of life in Japan and the international community at large. Lessons from history are close at hand and must not be ignored.
We urge Japan's ruling authorities to face up to, rather than turn a blind eye to, the concerns of the international community, adhere to the path of peaceful development instead of repeating the mistakes of the past, and abide by the four political documents between China and Japan rather than act in bad faith. Should Japan's ultra-right forces misjudge the situation and act recklessly, they will inevitably face resistance from the Japanese people and
firm response
from the international community. China's policy toward Japan has always maintained stability and continuity, and will not change because of a single election in Japan.
Lin stated that we once again urge the Japanese side to retract Takaichi’s erroneous remarks on the Taiwan question and demonstrate the basic sincerity to uphold the political foundation of China-Japan relations with concrete actions. We also warn the Japanese ruling authorities that the Chinese people are unwavering in their resolve to safeguard the country’s core interests, unwavering in their resolve to defend the outcomes of World War II and the post-war international order, and unwavering in their resolve to counter and frustrate the provocative and reckless acts of various anti-China forces.
