Portland Trail Blazers center Yang Hansen, the 20-year-old Chinese prospect selected 16th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, made a notable appearance in the NBA Rising Stars Challenge on Friday night.

Yang contributed 10 points on efficient 4-of-5 shooting, including 1-of-2 from three-point range, along with two rebounds in just over eight minutes off the bench, according to the official website of NBA. His performance drew praise back home in China despite his team's defeat.

Yang's performance highlighted his skill set, drawing comparisons to other versatile big men and earning praise for his poise under the spotlight.

Yang, who has seen limited NBA action this season, is averaging 2.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.6 assists in 26 games for the Blazers. He has excelled more in the G League with the Rip City Remix, averaging 18.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, and two assists.

Highlights included a smooth three-pointer, a well-executed assist and an and-one finish, showcasing the blend of size, shooting, and basketball IQ that earned him the nickname "Little Jokic" among Chinese observers.

Back in China, Yang's participation sparked widespread enthusiasm and pride, with fans viewing it as a milestone for Chinese basketball.

As the first Chinese player drafted into the NBA since 2016, Yang's journey has rekindled interest in NBA All-Star Weekend. He is only the third Chinese player to appear in the NBA All-Star Rising Stars Challenge after Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian.

Fans have expressed high expectations, with some comparing him to Chinese legend Yao Ming, though others have urged patience amid occasional criticism of Yang's early adjustment to the NBA.

"I believe one day he will have his place in the NBA. He is playing with a lot more confidence than he used to," a Weibo user said.
