With the "two sessions" underway in Beijing this week, Global Times reporter Dong Feng has exclusively interviewed some ambassadors to China to pursue their thoughts on the meeting. From 2026, China will start to implement the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) for economic and social development. Focusing on the most noteworthy development opportunities to be unleashed from China's 15th Five-Year Plan, the envoys share their perspectives for bilateral cooperation.Anibal Cabral, Uruguay's ambassador to China, attends the two sessions for the first time this year. From Uruguay's perspective, the advance of China in new technologies is very attractive for Uruguay as well as for the whole world. Cabral told the Global Times that China's model of development under the leadership of the Communist Party of China is of great significance.
"In this regard we believe the advances in ecology and environmental protection are areas in which both countries can share. Uruguay has achieved many excellent results in environmental issues and we are ready to share and to learn. Also, the development of agriculture and improvement of the situation of the rural populations are of great interest to Uruguay."
The 15th Five-Year Plan places emphasis on developing the new quality productive forces, advancing high-standard opening-up, and promoting institutional reform.
In Cabral's view, China is a very reliable partner and a very good friend."We recommend to our companies and private business to explore more opportunities in the Chinese market and in partnership with Chinese businesses. We believe the environment marked by the rule of law and the efforts of the Party and the government to strengthen the internal market as well as to increase exchanges with the rest of the world will benefit all that do business both in China and with China," said Ambassador Cabral.
At the outset of this new five-year period, Uruguay is advancing bilateral relations in areas including trade and investment, technological innovation, green transition, the digital economy, and people-to-people exchanges. "Uruguay has important improvements in these areas and an important part of our advance is the close cooperation with China. In the next five years we expect to continue our cooperation and continue to deepen and expand our bilateral relationship. In the near future we will focus on bringing practical results to the interest of Chinese companies in investing in Uruguay and increase our people-to-people exchanges," Cabral said.
