Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday posted a message in Chinese, English and Arabic on social platform X, thanking China and other countries for their diplomatic efforts and support in securing a ceasefire between the US and Iran.

"As we proceed to Islamabad Talks, I wish to extend our deepest and sincere gratitude to our brotherly countries People's Republic of China, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Republic of Türkiye, Arab Republic of Egypt and State of Qatar for extending invaluable and all out support towards reaching the ceasefire and giving peaceful diplomatic efforts a chance to seek a comprehensive and conclusive end to the conflict," he said.

He also thanked the "brotherly countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council," and praised the leadership of brotherly countries as well as that of the US for demonstrating "exceptional strategic foresight, sagacity and patience in giving peace a chance."

At the end of the post, Sharif called on all parties to work together to forge a lasting peace in the region and beyond.

Iran and the US have agreed to a two-week ceasefire as announced by US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, a move that has been welcomed worldwide, the Xinhua News Agency reported Wednesday.

The truce was announced less than two hours before a deadline set by President Trump, and the two sides will hold negotiations in Islamabad, capital of Pakistan, per the report.
