After being evacuated out of White House Correspondents' Dinner due to security incident, Trump confirms shooter detained

US President Donald Trump confirmed detention of shooter at White House correspondents' annual dinner after security incident, reported Xinhua News Agency on Sunday.

Earlier, Trump was evacuated from the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner on Saturday after a loud noise was heard, video from the scene showed.

President Trump and Vice President JD Vance were reportedly uninjured, Xinhua reported.

A source told CNN that Trump is safe. According to an administration official, Cabinet members are OK as well.

The suspect was taken into custody after an apparent shooting at the dinner, Xinhua reported, citing sources.

Trump posted to Truth Social that a shooter has been apprehended at the correspondents' dinner.

"Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we 'LET THE SHOW GO ON' but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement," he wrote in a post.

"They will make a decision shortly. Regardless of that decision, the evening will be much different than planned, and we’ll just, plain, have to do it again," he said.

White House correspondents' dinner shooter reported to be male in his 30s, per Xinhua. It also reported that White House correspondents' annual dinner to be rescheduled; Trump to meet press soon.

A Politico reporter at the dinner said that they heard several loud bangs while seated at their tables. They then saw Secret Service agents rush the stage to secure the president and were told to duck under their tables.

The Secret Service and other authorities swarmed the banquet hall as guests ducked under tables by the hundreds. "Out of the way, sir!" someone yelled. Others yelled to duck, according to US media PBS.
