An Israeli military officer was killed in southern Lebanon, the Israeli military said Saturday.
The officer, identified as 24-year-old Maoz Israel Recanati, was a commander in the Golani Infantry Brigade, according to the military.
Israel's state-owned Kan TV reported that Recanati was killed on Friday when an explosive-laden drone launched by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah struck Israeli forces operating in the village of Deir Seryan near the Litani River in an Israeli-controlled security zone in southern Lebanon.
Another Israeli soldier was slightly wounded in the attack, the report said.
Kan TV said Israeli forces came under hours of Hezbollah drone and mortar fire, prompting Israeli counterstrikes in the area.
The broadcaster said 20 Israeli soldiers have been killed in southern Lebanon since the war with Iran erupted on Feb. 28, reigniting clashes between Israel and Hezbollah along the Lebanese front.
Hostilities have continued despite a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon that took effect at midnight between April 16 and 17.
